Petrified wood standups are the most economical way to collect stunning gem quality display specimens of petrified wood. They are typically cut from incomplete logs which are more plentiful. This allows us to select only the finest gem grade petrified wood rough specimens to cut and prepare as show case quality presentation pieces with our trademark mirror polish. Stand-ups can range in size from a few ounces to several pounds. Prices are usually based on a combination of wood variety and number of square inches of finished surface area. They are typically (but not always) cut as wedges with a flat base and a quartering cut through the wood grain to reveal the spledid natural beauty hidden inside. A giant sized petrified wood stand-up with incredible wood grain revealed in the gemmy face. It's a beautiful, massive and impressive piece from Oregon's Sweet Home petrified forest. Very large petrified oak stand-up from Oregon's famous Stinking Water Creek Deposit. This represents about 1/5th of a complete cross section from an absolutely huge oak tree. Another Hubbard Basin, Nevada, petrified spruce! This is arguably the most beautiful fossil gem wood on the planet. The colors are amazing and the face of this log reveals the pith (heart) preserved in intricate detail, framed in countless tiny crystal lined cavities. Extra large Eden Valley Wyoming petrified pepper tree log, end cut. This is one of the largest and best rounds I've ever seen from Eden Valley. Incredibly colorful and well preserved full cross section of Hubbard Basin petrified wood (conifer). This one was difficult to get a good photograph of - colors are slightly darker with indoor light. The blues, reds and golds are all fairly dark and the camera wanted to lighten them up a lot. It's a beautiful, massive and impressive piece - it's also a full round cross section with a well defined pith and one of our largest stand-ups by far - a true mantle piece.
